Fair Housing: It’s Only Fair

by Suzanne Licata

The Fair Housing Act has been in place for more than 50 years, but do you know what it is or why it is important? At Curry, a family-owned business since 1924, we treat your family like we treat ours in providing the quality, service and experience you can trust. We pride ourselves on ensuring every Curry staff member from our maintenance team to our property managers is knowledgeable on current fair housing best-practices, rules/regulations and industry standards.

We recently hosted our annual company wide fair housing workshop and here is a summary of what the Curry team learned and discussed:

Fair Housing Act History

The Fair Housing Act ensures that all people have equal access to rent or purchase safe and affordable housing. It prohibits discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, familial status and disability.

For Residents

Our career professionals, some of whom have been with us more than 40 years, know that your home is more than just where you live. We understand that your home directly correlates to quality of life issues such as the schools your children can attend, employment opportunities available to you and access to stores, businesses and recreational choices. These vary from neighborhood to neighborhood and fair housing ensures that choice is available to all.

For the Community

Fair housing fosters inclusive communities, which promotes understanding and acceptance among individuals. Studies also show that fair housing enhances a community’s economic success. A diverse residential population makes a diverse workforce available to support local businesses and organizations, which can enhance their goals and advance the community’s economic development.

Everyone has the right to be treated fairly and equally when searching for their next home. We were glad we could host such a successful fair housing team workshop!
