30 Year Anniversary for Tina Miller

Sometimes your future is right under your nose. Or next door, in Tina Miller’s case. In 1995, Miller lived next to Curry Real Estate Service’s Manor Ridge apartments 120 West Elizabeth, in Independence. She had often thought that she might be good at apartment property management. Organized and empathetic, Tina had the idea she could take those attributes and others and do well for the residents and Curry.
Turns out, she was right. This year, Miller celebrates 30 years as a property manager for Curry. She started with and still manages the 49-unit Manor Ridge as well as Crysler Plaza East and West Apartments, 12400 -12519 East 40th Street, which have 120 units between them.
“A lot has changed since I started,” said Miller, citing all the technology that has made it easier and more efficient for her to manage the properties, and for tenants to ask questions, make requests and pay rent. What hasn’t changed, she said, is Curry’s commitment to keeping the properties in top shape.
“Curry does a really good job not only on routine maintenance and tenant requests but also on significant updates,” she said, pointing out new balconies and exterior stairways at Crysler East and West respectively, new fencing and secure access to the pool and updated secure access to the apartment buildings.
“The commitment to invest in these properties makes my job easier, for sure,” Miller added. Beautifully maintained properties and grounds makes for happier tenants though Miller says she has plenty to do all the time.
“I am never bored,” she agreed. “I keep a list of things I need to do and check them off as they are accomplished. I don’t always get to them when I had planned but, I never lose track of what I am supposed to be doing next.”
For Miller, it is Curry’s culture that have kept her with the company for so long. “I work with good people,” she said. “They’re understanding. They’re good communicators. They make you feel appreciated. I love that Curry is family owned. Ellen Todd (Curry president) is just really great. Personally, she’s warm and friendly and when it’s about business, she is clear about what is important and what needs to be done.”
When Miller isn’t working she loves to spend time with her husband and the 16-year-old granddaughter who is staying with them as well as with her four other grandchildren. She also enthuses about travel – talking excitedly about recent trips to Niagara Falls, New Mexico and Arizona.
“I do love to travel to different places but when I am home, after work I just want to stay in and relax with my husband and granddaughter,” Miller said. And, probably, update her list for what is to be done next.
