Making Sweet Memories

by Suzanne Licata

Curry is absolutely surrounded by people for whom we have profound appreciation – our staff and tenants. They are just The Best! So we did a couple of things this summer that hinted at how delighted we are to work with and for them and it started with a Royal good time. (August 15, 2022)

One day we told the whole Curry team, we’re closing up shop and going to a Kansas City Royals baseball game. In the middle of the day. Taking over a suite. With fantastic food. You could hang in the suite the whole time or scoot over to the stadium seating just in front of the suite and watch the game like a regular citizen.

Nearly all our people were there and you know who else was there? Three-time Royals Pitcher of the Year, three-time 20-game winner, team all-time leader with 103 complete games and 23 shutouts, righty Dennis Leonard. He was so much fun. As you can imagine, he had a ton of great stories and was infinitely patient in taking pictures with us and signing whatever we put in front of him.

Also making an appearance – Sluggerrr. He’s surprisingly tall – 6’9”! For someone who regularly makes special appearances all over the country, he was not much of a conversationalist but we were delighted to get an up close and personal visit from one of the most popular mascots in Major League Baseball.

It was hotter than blazes all summer long which made us dream of ice cream. So, better than dreaming we made it a reality – calling upon our new friends at Melt Box Ice Cream to bring the yum and help us celebrate tenant appreciation days at four of Curry Real Estate Services commercial real estate centers – Summit Center in Lee’s Summit, Kearney Commercial in Kearney, Windmill Square in Overland Park and Antioch Annex in Gladstone. At the Antioch Annex we piled on the fun inviting folks from the Shops at Kendallwood, 2601 Kendallwood and our corporate office to join in the frosty goodness.

Our commercial property management team hustled to get the word out – handing out fliers and talking it up. That was a successful effort because we had an amazing turnout at each event! Everyone was so appreciative. It helped that Melt Box has a mouth watering array of flavor experiences – more than 30, plus 20 toppings and at least a half dozen sauces. It was super fun to hang out with and chat up our tenants and they enjoyed getting to know each other as well.

This was just a slice of what Curry did last summer but it was among the tastiest!
