Works Good, Looks Good – The Curry Way of Maintenance and Upgrades

by Suzanne Licata

Maintenance and property upgrades have been underway at a breakneck pace throughout Curry’s commercial real estate and multi-family properties in 2022. Few organizations are more committed to strategic asset management than Curry and you don’t have to look far to see that! (December 15, 2022)

Just this fall saw the replacement of the giant plate glass windows at the Godfather’s Pizza in the Antioch Annex in Gladstone. Good energy efficiency? Sure! Great look and the better to see your future lunch or dinner as you head for the door? Definitely! Reminds us of the fun umbrella tables and benches we set out at Kearney Commercial last spring in front of Silvinski’s Bakery. They look great and just draw you in to sit a spell to enjoy your sugary bakery treat. All this talk about food is making us hungry!

On the other side of town is the iconic Windmill Square Shopping Center – 50,000 square feet of thriving office / retail operations. It got a refreshing façade makeover as we made needed repairs and brought a contemporary paint scheme to the entire center. For a nearly 50-year-old, it looks like a kid again. This new great look helped attract additional tenants, including a brew pub, bringing the center to almost 100 percent occupancy.

If possible, we’ve been even busier with our apartment community projects. Individual unit upgrades are a constant as turnovers allow and the work is ongoing to provide our residential communities with secured entry access – keypads on exterior doors and laundry rooms.

We’re trying out something new at our Village Gardens Apartments north of the river – interior door wraps. It looks like paint but wears tougher, they say. In any move, those interior doors take a beating so we’re seeing if we can protect the beauty, and durability, of these doors with a wrap.

There are a couple of extensive and highly visible projects to note. One is at El Chaparral Apartments in Riverside where the first four buildings have received all new windows and sliding glass doors as that initiative continues. The 69-unit Blue Springs Apartments complex is a 2022 acquisition for us. We installed new decks for every unit – they look amazing – and brought the electrical system up to Curry standards as we made essential upgrades.

But wait, there’s more! The pool at Cherokee Village Apartments got a fantastic improvement with a new, snazzy-looking fence that has black aluminum rails – a fancy and functional upgrade from the wood privacy fence it replaced. Meanwhile, a huge project at Kendallwood Apartments just completed – the replacement of a large retaining wall. It definitely looks and functions better and residents got a few additional parking spots in the bargain.

We haven’t mentioned the endless concrete work, landscaping and even the speedy clean up after storms blow through and blow down branches and other debris that can impede safe driving or walking through our properties. You can depend on Curry to protect your home or place of work and to make it as attractive and welcoming to you, your employees and customers, family and friends, as can be imagined.
