NNI adds Matt Pepper as New Board Member

by Suzanne Licata

Matt Pepper, vice president of Curry Real Estate Services, Inc., has become the newest member of the Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. (NNI), board. He continues an unbroken chain of commitment within Curry of serving on the organization’s board that started with the late Ray R. Brock, Jr., and was carried forward by Curry President Ellen Todd. Both Brock and Todd served on the NNI board for many, many years.

Curry’s service first culture is ingrained both in its business and the community. That is how the company has carried itself into its 100th year and through four generations of leadership – with hard work and professionalism in its business as well as dedication to service in community. There is no separation between the wellbeing of Curry’s business and the people in the communities Curry serves.

“Thriving neighborhoods and are essential to the businesses that serve them and NNI has long been at the forefront in making good things happen for our Northland residents,” said Pepper. “Curry has a long history of giving back starting with Ray’s involvement and continued by Ellen. It’s an honor to be among the next generation of Northland leaders to carry on their legacy of service to and through NNI.”

Pepper said that a key goal of his, and Curry’s, involvement is to continue to be aware of, understand and help address the needs and challenges of the larger Northland community.

Founded in 1966, Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., is dedicated to neighborhood improvement and revitalization in Clay and Platte counties. Its impact is felt at both the community and individual resident level. In just the 2021 – 2022 timeframe alone, NNI’s Home Repair Program completed more than $1 million in projects for families in need.

The organization also hosts the popular Northland Problem Solving meetings that bring education and advocacy to matters of interest and concern. Its NNI at Work program works to stabilize and preserve neighborhoods through code enforcement support and connecting people to community resources.

In June 2021, NNI dedicated the Raymond R. Brock Jr., Hall in honor of Curry’s former chairman emeritus. Located in NNI’s offices at 5340 NE Chouteau Trafficway, the hall hosted more than 200 events in its first full year. Those events included everything from meetings of residents learning how to help make their home and neighborhoods safer with Block Watch programs and senior workshops to Focus Vivion Road meetings and receptions for new Northland leadership. NNI is the only community development corporation serving the Northland.
