Rising to New Heights: Congratulations, Paula Basham

by Suzanne Licata

Paula Basham is accustomed to transitions and she just made a big one, taking on the role of regional property manager for Curry Real Estate Services.

“I started with Curry as manager of Kendallwood and Rock Creek Apartments,” said Basham. “That was such an honor, to have responsibility for the company’s flagship multi-family properties. There was quite a lot to get my arms around but it has been a terrific experience managing employee and resident relations and making sure these properties always meet the high Curry standards.”

Now she oversees a larger portfolio of properties in addition to Kendallwood and Rock Creek including apartment communities in Liberty and Claycomo. The biggest change for her has been the step up in budget development and management.

“I love learning financials from a company-wide perspective,” said Basham. “I’ve seen it from the on-site level. Now I am assessing the situation more strategically – tying what we are trying to accomplish in essential maintenance, scheduled updates and overall appearance to the budget. It has been close work with company leadership to plan these things out.”

She joined the company in the fall of 2022 after transitioning from the construction industry to property management. Coming to Curry, she happily left behind years in the corporate world to one that is family-owned, professional and people first.

“Curry does an excellent job of making you feel an important part of the team – the whole person, not just a worker sending in reports,” Basham said. “They truly do care about the employee, want to do the best for their residents and continually invest in their properties for the long term.”

She also prioritizes investing in building relationships with her team. “It is a pleasure to support my team as they pursue their goals and a treat to celebrate with them when they accomplish them,” said Basham. “Their good work helps me do my own job well,”

The one thing that has not changed as she moved into this new role – her favorite part – every single day is different. She has learned in her career the importance of planning, also the importance of being flexible. The unexpected can and will arise. “It keeps things interesting!”

Away from the office Basham says her family continues to thrive with four girls ages 14 – 19 and the only boy, age 7, still at home. When they can they still like to go to the lake and camp, or glamp. No roughing it for this crew!
