Industry Leadership Times Two

Matt Pepper, CCIM®, CPM®, vice president commercial, and Patrick Flynn CPM®, vice president multifamily, may have delivered a Curry first in industry leadership

In 2026, Patrick became the most recent Curry executive to serve as president of the Institute of Real Estate Management, Kansas City Chapter (IREM KC). He follows six other Curry professionals in this role, but what is new is that Patrick’s IREMKC service coincides with Matt’s term as an IREM Regional Vice President, serving Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska. Unprecedented for Curry and likely unusual within an industry association, especially when comparing the size of Curry to national commercial real estate companies. This means something to tenants and owners.

The qualifications just to be considered for either role are top level and the responsibilities for each describe a person others trust with problem solving, insight and guidance. That, coupled with exceptional experience, expertise and strong communication skills, means tenants and clients are getting the best possible customer experience.

The commitment is real. Curry not only encourages but has an expectation that its executive staff will get involved with and take on leadership roles in key professional associations. That requires accommodating the time commitment though, somehow, Matt and Patrick manage to carry out their IREM roles alongside their normal day-to-day duties for tenants, clients and our local community.

The job description for Matt’s regional role includes language like ambassador, mentor, guide, visionary, strategic partner. That is what he is to bring to the local chapters he visits within his region among many other duties. The one for Patrick reads like that for a CEO, managing the organization’s operations and making sure it is set for a successful future.

Many have said that taking on the leadership role in a professional association is like having a second job. We are proud of these guys for doing both jobs with class and professionalism.
