H&R Block 20 year tenant anniversary

H&R Block, the iconic and home-grown tax preparation company, was founded 70 years ago and this year, Curry is celebrating another Block anniversary – 20 years as our tenant at 5941 NE Antioch Rd. Wow!
“Curry has always been quick to respond to whatever we have needed,” said Sue Walker, multi-unit team leader for H&R Block. “In the winter, they get the walkways, drives and parking areas clear of snow before we get to the office. When they are working on improvement projects, like one when they replaced light poles in the parking lots, they give us notice so we can adjust as needed.”
“Of course, Curry is my first call if we have a property issue,” she continued. “Dan (Sweeney, vice president, commercial) is very responsive. He talks things through with me on the phone and comes onsite to make sure all is taken care of. I have been extremely happy with Dan.”
Walker manages three offices – scheduling, client relations and supporting the Block team as needed. She has been with Block for 10 years and in her present role for four. While not a tax preparer herself, she did take an introductory tax course the company offers just so she could answer basic questions unrelated to the client’s return that come in by phone.
Block requires continuing education for all its tax professionals and encourages them to choose an area of interest to gain experience and knowledge in it. “Crypto currency, rental units and retirement-related tax courses are popular,” added Walker.
One would think the busiest month of the tax season is April but, according to Walker, it is February. “As soon as people get their W2s, end of January, first part of February, they want to file their returns,” she said. “Of course, we had people standing in line and full waiting rooms April 14 and 15, but we served them all before our office closed at 11:00 p.m.”
Offices are still busy, getting caught up and working with clients that filed an extension. Even so, the Block team gets to turn some of its attention to end-of-tax-season celebrations for associates and their families. The H&R Block district office hosts these for each office and Walker’s will hold theirs on May 31 at a park in Liberty. “We will grill out with the district office providing the main dish and sides,” she said. “Families can bring their favorite sides and drinks, and we will just play games and enjoy each other.”
